More Mountain x Montagne Verte

Whether you ski, snowboard, mountain bike, hike or just love the fresh mountain air, in Morzine we are so lucky to have the mountains and nature on our doorstep.

But the questions is...for how long?

The impact of global warming on our world is coming into sharper focus with every passing year. In the years since we arrived in Morzine we have noticed that the summers are getting hotter and the winters are getting warmer and wetter.

It’s evident that we not only need to protect our winters but we, as a business, need to work harder to protect our environment.

We feel a responsibility to act to both lower the impact of tourism on the environment and work towards climate adaptation so future generations can enjoy holidays in Morzine and the surrounding area.

One Guest = One Euro

Since winter 2019, we have donated €1 for every guest staying at More Mountain so a tree could be planted on their behalf, by us, through our planting partner One Tree Planted, a non-profit based organisation who plant trees in areas of the world that need it most.

From 2024 we will be supporting local not-for-profit organisation Montagne Verte by donating €1 for every guest that stays with us.

If you want to donate to Montagne Verte directly, you can make a one-off or regular donation here via the More Mountain MV Page or use this widget.

Why Montagne Verte?

Montagne Verte is working to develop sustainable solutions and both help businesses adapt to a changing future and lower the carbon emissions of tourism in Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz.

At More Mountain, we recognise and take responsibility for the fact that our industry indirectly encourages and enables air travel and emissions. By working with Montagne Verte we are supporting actions that have a direct, positive impact on our local area.

The money we pledge on your behalf will enable Montagne Verte to:

  • Provide more services to local businesses to support their transition to lower carbon operations
  • Invest in more ground breaking projects such as the BioCyclette organic waste collection and the AlpinExpress pass to encourage and reward train travel (through this pass More Mountain offers free lift passes for guests travelling by train!)
  • Lobby for more sustainable transport improvements within and to Morzine, Les Gets & Avoriaz
  • Work towards climate adaptation for businesses within the Haut Chablais
  • Continue to provide more events and services for local residents to help lower everyone’s carbon impact

The Impact of Montagne Verte's Projects

Second Hand Shop in Morzine: In winter 2023-24 almost 20 tonnes of CO2eq was saved by reusing clothes sold in the second hand shop. That’s equivalent to around 100 european flights! 790kg of clothing was sold and saved from landfill or incineration.

BioCyclette: Local food waste collection via bicycle, avoiding unnecessary incineration and creation of biogas. This winter alone saved 6 tonnes of CO2eq the same as around 30 flights from London to Geneva.

AlpinExpress: By offering discounts for a range of local businesses this pass helps encourage people to take the train and mitigate the increased cost of doing so.

Green Guides & Education: Montagne Verte have produced a database of eco-friendly solutions from cleaning products, to construction to energy suppliers.

AMAP: Local organic produce subscriptions, connecting consumers directly with producers, reducing food miles, encouraging sustainable practices, reducing carbon impact and improving biodiversity.

Advocacy work: Working with local government and stakeholders to help influence policy decisions, such as cycle mobility working group, Flocon Vert Copil and the promotion and awareness of better train links.

Climate is changing

In 2023 temperatures in France were +1.4°C compared to the average temperatures between 1991 and 2020. For the first time, every day of the year reached a temperature at least one degree above pre-industrial times. Warming in the Alps is twice the global average, so mountain regions are even further impacted.

People can be sceptical about climate change, however, it is clear to us that there are a large number of places in the world where time really IS running out for many natural habitats and environments and this in turn effects us all.

Our Pledge

For every guest that stays with us at More Mountain we will donate one euro to Montagne Verte.

It’s our gift to our guests - it costs them nothing

We're building on our long-term commitment of protecting the planet by now focusing on our little bit of the Alps. We believe supporting local environmental actions is another step in the right direction, and something that we can all see tangible results from.
